Bentonite and Cassava Mixed Cat Litter for Wholesale Buyers

Cat Litter  •  Written by Magnet Cat Litter

Replacing a successful clay litter is a harder decision than launching a product into an empty category. Customers already know how the current bag pours, how the clumps feel and what they expect to pay. A bentonite and cassava blend needs to earn its place against that familiar experience.

The buyer’s task is not to decide whether cassava sounds better than clay. It is to establish whether a specific mixed formula offers enough useful difference to justify its price, packaging and inventory requirements.

Use Your Current Clay SKU as the Benchmark

Compare the proposed bentonite and cassava mixed cat litter with the actual product your customers buy. Avoid using an unusually weak clay sample simply to make the blend look good.

Write down what must not get worse: scoopability, delivered dust, cleaning effort, availability and margin may all matter. Then identify the change you want to achieve. A brief with one or two priorities is easier to evaluate than a request to improve everything at the same price.

Ask whether the suggested formula is a standard product or a development sample. A promising experimental batch is not yet evidence of repeatable commercial production.

Compare Equivalent Selling Units

A price per tonne tells only part of the story when formulas differ in bulk density. A fixed-weight bag can occupy a different volume, while a fixed-volume bag can contain a different mass.

Request filled-pack dimensions, net contents, gross weight and case configuration for each candidate. Calculate landed cost per saleable unit using the same delivery assumptions. Do not assume a lighter formula automatically produces lower freight per bag; it may consume more shipping space.

Keep retail value separate from logistics value. Customers may appreciate a more manageable bag, but that preference should be tested rather than used as an automatic justification for a smaller quantity at the same price.

Measure Cleanup and Consumption Together

Evaluate clump removal at several agreed waiting periods. Note broken wet fragments, sticking to the tray and clean litter carried out on the scoop. Repeat the procedure rather than reporting only the strongest clump.

If you compare consumption by weight, account for differences in starting bulk density and retained liquid. Wet clump mass alone is not a valid measure of dry litter used. A controlled comparison needs a defined method, and household usage should be recorded separately.

The commercial question is whether customers obtain an acceptable cleaning experience at the intended refill cost. A low factory price does not compensate for a product that makes the customer discard excessive clean material.

Ask How the Blend Is Kept Consistent

Confirm the ratio basis, permitted variation and production checks. Ask how samples are taken from filled bags, not only from the mixer.

Handling may expose differences that are not obvious in a freshly mixed sample. Compare production-format bags after a representative journey and examine whether the first and last portions behave differently. If the supplier changes particle size or a component source, determine whether the blend needs to be requalified.

Do not settle for the phrase same formula when the delivered product has changed noticeably. The written specification should make a useful investigation possible.

Keep Mineral Content Clear on the Packaging

A product containing bentonite should not be described as entirely plant-based. Nor should claims associated with a cassava component be carried over automatically to the whole mixture.

Review composition, disposal instructions and environmental wording as statements about the finished product. Avoid a flushable message based solely on the presence of cassava. Seek destination-specific review for regulated claims before printing bags.

The product can have a worthwhile commercial role without making a broad environmental promise. Clear descriptions of its composition and substantiated performance are more useful than an identity that the ingredients cannot support.

Decide Whether It Replaces or Complements Clay

A retailer may prefer a limited trial alongside its established clay line. Track which customers choose it, whether they repurchase and whether the new SKU creates additional sales or mainly moves existing buyers to a lower-margin option.

When discussing a range with a clumping cat litter manufacturer, make that assortment decision explicit. The formula, pack size and first order should support the intended role, not merely fill another space in the catalogue.
