A buyer asks for tofu litter and receives a sample containing tofu pellets mixed with mineral granules. The supplier sees a familiar mixed product; the buyer expected a formula without bentonite. Both have used the words tofu cat litter, but they have not agreed on the same product.

This wording starts a useful discussion without pretending that a casual email establishes a laboratory-verified absence claim. If your packaging requires a stricter statement, ask a qualified technical provider what evidence and method would support it. A zero claim needs more care than a statement about what is intentionally added.
Check whether the confirmation covers every fragrance or size variant you intend to buy. Similar-looking bags do not necessarily contain the same formula.
Do Not Turn an Exclusion Into a Performance Promise
Removing bentonite does not, by itself, prove lower dust, better clumping, easier cleanup or suitability for every automatic litter box. Those characteristics depend on the finished product and its intended use.
The same caution applies to safety and environmental language. Do not describe a formula as safer, hypoallergenic or flushable simply because bentonite is absent. Review each proposed claim on its own evidence and under the requirements of the destination market.
The commercial message can remain straightforward: an accurately described formula for shoppers who prefer that ingredient profile. There is no need to criticize all mineral litter to explain why your own range includes an alternative.
Keep the Rest of the Buying Brief Specific
Once composition is clear, specify the product the customer will actually handle. Confirm pellet dimensions, fragrance requirements, declared net contents, opening and closure design, storage instructions and the packing arrangement.
Ask whether the proposed formula is an existing commercial option or a custom development. Removing an ingredient from a standard product may affect price, production minimums or lead time. Do not assume that a supplier can make the change without revisiting those terms.
If you are considering unscented tofu cat litter, confirm fragrance separately from bentonite. The absence of one says nothing about the other. Any mismatch between the product description and specification should be resolved before artwork is signed off.
Give the Product a Clear Role in Your Range
A bentonite-free tofu line can make sense when your customers ask for that composition or your existing assortment lacks it. It is less compelling when it merely adds another bag that store staff cannot distinguish from your current tofu product.
Decide whether the SKU replaces an existing formula or sits alongside it. If both remain, make the difference understandable on the shelf and in the product listing. Compare equivalent selling quantities before deciding the price position.
Start with the smallest sensible assortment, not every available fragrance. A clear core product is easier to explain, forecast and replenish than several almost identical versions.
Protect the Requirement on Repeat Orders
Keep the approved composition statement with the sample record and purchase specification. Require notice and approval before substitutions that affect the exclusion requirement or customer-facing description.
Batch paperwork should identify the relevant product and revision; a generic company certificate does not establish the composition of every bag. Agree what evidence is available if a later shipment raises a question.
The useful outcome is a product your purchasing team can reorder and your sales team can describe accurately. Start with the ingredient requirement, but finish with a complete, agreed retail SKU.
