Cat Litter Types
Cat litter is available in a variety of natural, plant-based and mineral formulations. Each material offers different advantages in clumping, odor control, dust levels, absorption and environmental performance.
Magnet® manufactures every type below at our own plants in Qingdao and Tay Ninh.
If you are adding a new product line to your retail store or your own brand, the collections and comparison table below lay out what each material is made of and how to choose the litter that best suits your market.

Check out various types of cat litter.
Tofu Cat Litter
Made from pea fibre left over from soybean processing. Clumps in about 30 seconds, dissolves in water so it can be flushed, and weighs roughly a third of what clay does per litre. The lower freight cost is often what decides it for importers. Our most requested material for private label.
Scented & Unscented Tofu Cat Litter
The same tofu base in two directions. Unscented suits cats that reject fragrance and markets where "no additives" is the selling point. Scented runs in green tea, peach, lavender or a fragrance you supply. Most retail lines carry both, and both ship in the same container.
Cassava Cat Litter
Cassava root starch gives the hardest clump of any plant-based litter, which means less breakage in the tray and less product wasted per scoop. Flushable and fully biodegradable. Sits at a premium retail price point, so it suits brands positioning above the tofu tier.
Corn Cat Litter
Ground corn with a natural starch binder. Strong odor control from the starch itself rather than added fragrance, which makes it a good fit for unscented and sensitive-cat product lines. Widely recognised by North American consumers, so it needs less shelf education than newer materials.
Clay Bentonite & Cassava Cat Litter
Sodium bentonite blended with cassava starch. The clay delivers the hard, fast clump that clay buyers expect while the cassava cuts dust and brings the weight down. A practical bridge product for retailers moving customers from traditional clay toward plant-based litter.
Wheat Cat Litter
Whole ground wheat, where naturally occurring starches handle the clumping and enzymes handle odor. Soft underfoot, which matters for cats that reject coarser granules. A reliable middle option when you want plant-based credentials without moving to a premium price point.
Walnut Shell Cat Litter
Crushed walnut shell, a byproduct of the nut industry. Absorbs more than twice its weight and the dark colour hides soiling, so trays look clean longer between changes. Strong odor control. Popular with multi-cat households and shelters buying in bulk.
Mixed Formula Cat Litter
A blend built to your brief — tofu with bentonite for extra clump strength, tofu with cassava for a harder clump at a mid price, or a formula weighted toward a cost target. Blending lets you hit a price point or a performance claim that no single material reaches on its own.
Health Monitoring Cat Litter
Indicator granules mixed through a tofu or corn base change colour according to the pH of the litter they contact, turning a cat's daily tray visit into a passive wellness check. The colour scale is printed on the pack. A clear feature story on shelf and the highest retail margin in our range.

How to Choose the Right Cat Litter?
- Cost-conscious purchasers (tofu & cassava litter): Logistics cost advantage is our core appeal. With roughly one-third the weight of traditional clay per equal volume, we significantly reduce international shipping expenses—savings that materialize from the freight stage onward.
- Supermarket and mass retail (corn litter & clay-cassava blend): Market-ready acceptance is the priority. Formulations closely mirror proven bestsellers, requiring zero consumer education. A competitive entry-level price point ensures rapid penetration of the mass market.
- Premium B2C and pet specialty (cassava litter & health-monitoring litter): Functional premiumization drives the value proposition. Superior clump hardness, paired with innovative health-tracking features, builds a compelling brand story that justifies higher margins and fosters customer loyalty.
- Private label programmes (tofu litter, both scented and unscented): Flexibility and speed are key. We offer the broadest range of formulations and the shortest lead time to custom packaging, enabling you to launch your own exclusive product line with minimal startup costs.
Cat-side factors matter too — multi-cat households and senior cats each do better on different granule sizes and absorption rates. Tell us your market, target price point and pack format, and we will recommend a shortlist.
