Odor Control Cat Litter Manufacturer & Wholesale Supplier
Odor is the reason cat owners switch brands. It is also the claim most litter packaging makes loosely — because adding fragrance is cheap, and fragrance is not odor control. Covering a smell and removing one are different mechanisms, and they produce different reviews after week two.
We manufacture odor control cat litter on four mechanisms rather than one: absorption, clumping, adsorption and, where a market wants it, masking. Our cassava formula tests at a 99.2% odor control rate with nothing added to it at all. Available wholesale, in bulk and under private label.
Pull odor into the granule
A porous structure draws moisture and the odor it carries inside the granule, where it stays. Nothing is added and nothing is covered up.
Clump before odor escapes
Fast clumping traps urine in a sealed mass within seconds, so ammonia never develops in the tray. Speed matters more than clump hardness here.
Bind odor chemically
Activated charcoal binds odor molecules to its surface. It works on smells that absorption alone leaves behind, and adds no scent of its own.
Cover odor with fragrance
Fragrance sits on top of the smell rather than removing it. Useful for shelf appeal and for markets that expect scent, but it is not odor control on its own.
Odor Control vs Odor Masking
This is the single most useful thing to get right before you choose a formula, because it decides what your reviews say six weeks after launch.
Genuine odor control
- The odor is removed or contained. Absorbed into the granule, sealed inside a clump, or bound to charcoal.
- Performance holds between changes. Nothing wears off, because nothing was applied.
- Works for fragrance-sensitive buyers. An unscented product can still control odor well — and increasingly that is what the market asks for.
- Measurable. An odor control rate is a number you can test and put in a spec sheet.
Masking alone
- The smell is still there, with fragrance layered over it
- Scent fades over days while the odor does not
- Some cats reject a heavily scented tray outright
- Fragrance plus ammonia is often worse than ammonia alone
- No figure you can put in a spec or defend to a retailer
None of this makes fragrance wrong. Scented litter sells, and we make it in seven varieties. The point is that an odor eliminating cat litter earns that description through its base formula — scent should sit on top of one, not stand in for it.
Our Best Odor Control Cat Litter Formulas
Ranked by mechanism rather than by material. Four are natural odor control cat litter formulas that need no fragrance at all. All are available for wholesale, bulk and private label production.
Cassava Cat Litter
The strongest odor control cat litter we make, and the figure is achieved with no fragrance, no baking soda and no charcoal. Porous granules absorb odor while 3-second clumping seals the source. Two mechanisms in one material.
Walnut Shell Cat Litter
Walnut shell has a naturally porous honeycomb structure that takes odor into the granule. Nothing is added and the dark colour keeps a heavily used tray looking clean between changes.
Activated Charcoal Tofu
The unscented tofu formula with activated charcoal blended through it. Charcoal binds odor molecules chemically, which catches what absorption alone leaves behind — with no fragrance at all.
Corn Cat Litter
Corn starch handles odor naturally, so the standard formula ships unscented. A straightforward option for sensitive-cat and fragrance-free retail lines at a mid price point.
Clay Bentonite & Cassava
Clay controls odor poorly. Blending cassava into it at 1:1 lifts odor control by 90% against straight bentonite while keeping the clay price position. The value-tier answer.
Custom Odor Control Formula
Combine mechanisms: walnut absorption with cassava clumping, or charcoal added to a tofu base. The blend ratio is set at production, so a custom odor formula carries no development premium.
Odor Control by Material
Which mechanism each material uses, and what it can honestly claim on a pack.
| Material | Mechanism | Measured | Fragrance needed | Best for | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cassava | Absorb + seal | 99.2% | No | Premium, multi-cat | View |
| Walnut shell | Absorb | Natural, unrated | No | Premium, clean label | View |
| Charcoal tofu | Adsorb | Unrated | No | Sensitive cats | View |
| Corn | Absorb | Natural, unrated | No | Mass retail | View |
| Wheat straw | Absorb | 504% absorption | No | Eco, dual-use | View |
| Tofu | Seal | Fast clumping | Optional | Volume, private label | View |
| Clay + cassava | Absorb + seal | +90% vs clay | No | Value tier | View |
| Scented tofu | Seal + mask | 7 fragrances | Yes, by design | Shelf appeal | View |
Read the Measured column carefully. 99.2% is an absolute odor control rate. "+90% vs clay" is a relative gain over the base material and is not the same claim. We state the basis so your packaging copy does too.
Which Odor Control Formula Fits Your Market
By buyer
- Premium and pet specialty. Cassava. A tested 99.2% figure is a claim retailers can verify, and it justifies the price.
- Mass retail and supermarkets. Corn, or the clay-cassava blend where a clay price point has to be defended.
- Fragrance-free brand lines. Activated charcoal tofu or walnut shell. Both control odor with nothing added.
- Private label programmes. Any of the above, with the mechanism chosen to match the claim you want to print.
By end user
- Multi-cat households. The hardest case, and where a strong odor control cat litter earns its price. Cassava or walnut shell, where absorption capacity is highest and the tray works between changes.
- Small apartments. The tray sits in living space. Fast clumping matters most here, so cassava or a scented tofu with a real base formula under it.
- Cats that reject scent. Unscented corn or charcoal tofu. A rejected tray is a returned product.
- Shelters and catteries. High-absorption bulk material. Walnut shell or cassava in bulk sacks.
Custom Odor Control Cat Litter Formulas
Because we manufacture every base material ourselves, combining mechanisms is a blending decision rather than a sourcing project — which is the practical difference between us and an odor control cat litter supplier who buys finished goods. Tell us the complaint you are trying to remove and we will propose a formula.
Describe the problem
Ammonia after two days? Scent rejection? A review pattern? The complaint tells us the mechanism.
We propose a formula
Material, blend ratio and whether charcoal or fragrance belongs in it.
Test samples side by side
We send more than one option so you judge on the actual product, not on paper.
Lock the spec
The agreed odor performance goes into the contract and is checked per batch.

Wholesale & OEM Odor Control Cat Litter
Every formula on this page is produced at our own plants in Qingdao and Tay Ninh. Buying odor control cat litter wholesale from the factory rather than through a trading house is what makes a custom mechanism affordable — the blend is set at production, not bought in finished.
Wholesale supply
- MOQ 10 metric tons, roughly one 20GP container, with mixed loads accepted so you can trial more than one odor mechanism in a single order.
- Bulk odor control cat litter in woven sacks or neutral bags, or retail-ready printed packaging.
- 25–45 days from PO to port, FOB, CIF or DDP to 60+ countries.
- SGS test reports supplied with the shipment, so the odor claim on your pack is documented rather than asserted.
OEM & private label
- OEM odor control cat litter on any base material — your logo, granule spec, bag size and artwork.
- Custom odor control formulas. Charcoal loading, blend ratio and fragrance intensity all set to your brief.
- Claim wording support. We help phrase the odor claim so it matches the mechanism, which matters at retail compliance review.
- Free packaging design, including the spec panel where the odor figure appears.
As an odor control cat litter factory we hold CE, FDA, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, SGS, TÜV, CTI and MSDS documentation, and have supplied distributors, retail chains and private-label brands since 2008. More about the factory →

Frequently Asked Questions
How does cat litter control odor?
Four ways. Absorption pulls odor into a porous granule. Clumping seals urine before ammonia forms. Adsorption binds odor molecules to activated charcoal. Masking covers the smell with fragrance. The first three remove or contain odor; the fourth does not.
What is the difference between odor control and odor masking?
Control removes or contains the odor. Masking layers fragrance over it. Masked odor is still there and returns as the scent fades, which is why a litter that relies only on fragrance tends to lose reviews in the second or third week of use.
What is the best odor control cat litter?
By measured rate, our cassava formula at 99.2%, achieved with no fragrance, baking soda or charcoal added. For a fragrance-free brand line, activated charcoal tofu or walnut shell. For a clay price point, the clay-cassava blend.
Does unscented cat litter control odor?
Yes, and often better than scented. Our highest odor control figure comes from an unscented product. Odor control is a property of the base material; fragrance is a separate layer added on top for shelf appeal.
How do I stop ammonia smell in the litter box?
Ammonia forms as urine breaks down, so the answer is a litter that seals it fast. Our cassava formula clumps in about three seconds, which contains the urine before ammonia develops. High absorption also stops liquid pooling at the bottom of the tray, which is where the worst smell comes from.
What is the best cat litter for multi-cat odor control?
Cassava or walnut shell. Multi-cat trays get heavier use between changes, so absorption capacity is what decides whether the tray stays workable. Both absorb odor into the granule rather than relying on scent that fades under load.
Can you add activated charcoal or a custom fragrance?
Yes to both, on most base materials. Charcoal is standard on our unscented tofu formula. Seven fragrances run as standard and we develop custom scents to a brief or from a sample you send.
Can you produce private label odor control cat litter?
Yes — full OEM and ODM on any formula on this page. Your logo, mechanism, granule spec, bag size and artwork. We will also help word the odor claim so it matches what the product actually does.
What is the MOQ for bulk odor control cat litter?
Wholesale MOQ is 10 metric tons, roughly one 20GP container. Mixed containers are accepted, so you can test more than one odor control mechanism within a single order.
Can I get samples to test odor performance?
Yes, and for this claim in particular we recommend it. Odor control is the one property a spec sheet cannot fully convey. Tell us which mechanisms you want to compare and we will send them together.
